The mandate of the Data Protection Commission is derived from the Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843) and includes;
To monitor and enforce the data protection law, which gives individuals enforceable data protection rights and increases the responsibility of corporations that collect and process personal data
Regulate the processing of personal data;
Ensure that the processing of personal data of a data subject is guided by the principles in the Act;
The Commission ensure that living individuals are aware of their data protection rights.
